Chun Yin Liu, PhD

Postdoctoral Associate

Chun Yin is a Postdoc at Western University in the Department of Medical Biophysics. He earned a PhD degree in Linguistics from the University of Hong Kong. He is interested in brain connectivity and the brain circuit of pain and cognition. He likes drinking matcha.

Merna Selim, PhD

Postdoctoral Associate

Dr. Merna Seliman is the kNOw-Pain postdoc. Her work focuses on interdisciplinary pain research, aiming to validate two brain-based mechanisms using fMRI, EEG, and qualitative methods to better understand the processes underlying migraine in women. Her broader interests include women’s health, with emphasis on sexual health, mental health, and chronic pain.

Zheng (Eva) Lian, BSc

Master's Student

Zheng is a Neuroscience Master’s student at Western University. She earned an Honours Bachelor of Science double majoring in Neuroscience and Economics at the University of Toronto. She is interested in the cognitive aspect and mechanism of structural and functional alterations by pain through a connectivity-based approach.

Dryden Arseneau, BA

Master's Student

Dryden is a Master's student in Neuroscience at Western University, where his research examines how interactions between EEG alpha-band features relate to individual differences in pain sensitivity. He completed his BA (Hons) in Developmental Psychological Sciences at Ontario Tech University. Outside the lab, Dryden enjoys music, reading, writing, and cooking.

Yuan Yao, MSc

Research Technician

Yuan is a Research Technician in the DAS Lab. Before this role, they completed a Master’s in Neuroscience at Western University and a BSc in Psychology at King’s College London, UK. In addition to coordinating various lab operations, Yuan’s independent research focuses on adaptive control and interoception.

Felix Du, BSc

Administrative Assistant

Felix is the administrative assistant for kNOw-PAIN. He graduated from Western University with a Bachelor of Medical Sciences in Physiology. He is passionate about research, having previously investigated neuronal birthdating in zebrafish and currently working on a pediatric migraine project. In his spare time, he enjoys practicing piano and playing sports.

Rene Scheeringa, PhD

Research Scientist 

Dr. René Scheeringa is a cognitive neuroscientist specializing in multimodal integration, particularly simultaneous EEG–fMRI. He received his PhD from the Donders Institute at Radboud University Nijmegen. His work uses this multimodal approach to elucidate the brain networks underlying EEG signatures of pain perception.

Joshua Hoddinott, PhD

Postdoctoral Associate

Josh is a postdoctoral associate studying the neural mechanisms of pain perception using neuroimaging and neuromodulation. He received his PhD in Neuroscience from Western University and his BA in Psychology from Memorial University of Newfoundland, Grenfell Campus. He currently holds the Schulich Postdoctoral Fellowship for Pain Research at Western University.

Christi Tam, BSc

Master's Student

Christi is a first year MSc student in Neuroscience supervised by Dr. Siobhan Schabrun, and co-supervised by Dr. David Seminowicz. She completed her HBSc with a specialist in Neuroscience at the University of Toronto, Scarborough. Her research interests include investigating chronic pain models through neuroimaging and non-invasive brain stimulation.

Delia is a Master's student in Medical Biophysics under the supervision of Dr. David Seminowicz and Dr. Ravi Menon. She completed her undergraduate degree in Mathematical Physics at the University of Waterloo. Her current project is focused on learning more about brain oscillations and pain using EEG-fMRI.
